Orange Dazzling Dahlia Brooch - Unisex Debate

Yay! A Dahlia Brooch in a new colour - finally!

Honestly, I didn't know if I would make one in orange. However, I got a special order from a lady in the Netherlands requesting an orange one back in November! So I made it and sent it off! Her boyfriend actually ended up wearing it to a Dutch-themed wedding (as orange is their national colour, I believe) which made me really happy! :D I learned a lot from this.

What I can conclude from this is that:
1. The Gentle Flower products are somewhat unisex. (At least the brooches. My grandpa is going to wear one of these on his suit jacket!) Men like accessorizing too! :

2. The Gentle Flower products are in bright, happy colours, proving their versatile nature at various events! (They can both be worn on a daily basis or spruce up an outfit for a fancy event.)

5. I should make more jewelry for different events, themes and occasions!

Addicted to Bracelets {Let's Accessorize!}

I've gotten an addiction. 

I can't stop making or wearing bracelets!!

They're so much fun and make me happy! I love bracelets with special messages or images (such as hearts).

I made the one above a while back. It's a brown leather bow bracelet! I've made lots of these, which you can see pictures of here. Would you like to see these in the store? I can't make up my mind, plus they're hard to photograph! Let me know what you think :)

The bracelet above is a friendship bracelet I made for myself. The pattern is hearts and I think it's sooo cute.. I can't stop wearing it :) Would you like to see this in the shop? Let me know :) We can be bffs ;)

I made the 3 bracelets to the left. My bff made the beaded one. And the "HEART" bracelet is a Nike bracelet. I love mixing and matching the colours :)

Above is another pic of the heart bracelet. It doesn't show off the pretty blue colour of the hearts. They're more turquoise than the picture shows.

And lastely, my 3 bracelets from Nike that read CONFIDENCE, DESIRE and HEART. I'm also wearing a pink LIVESTRONG bracelet. I found these in a drawer a few weeks ago. I got them when we lived in Dubai, and I was so happy to find them - I had to wear them straightaway! :) They also remind me to be confident and listen to my heart's desire, which I really like :)

I've found LOTS of DIY tutorials on pinterest lately.. and I love them all! I'm sooo addicted to pinterest!!

I thought I would share some pins with you today that are both DIYs AND up-cycled crafts.

The positive thing about up-cycling is that it's much cheaper because you can use what you already have!! And if anyone else out there hates throwing things away as much as me, you'll know why up-cycling is the perfect thing for us to do ;)

I've found lot of super cool clothing refashions, accessories made using the simplest of materials we have lying around the house and some home decor.

I love the pops of colour, the elegance, the fun accessories (including the awesome manicures :D) and the glittter (when I was little, I ONLY wore gold sandals/ shoes. True story. I miss it. I also collected sequences.)

The Importance of Friendship {Russ 2012}

A while back I told you that I was going to be a "Russ" this year. In Norway, being a Russ is basically being a senior. We graduate high school a year after the rest of the world (nice, I know...), and celebrate graduating high school BEFORE exams and actually graduating. It's crazy to be honest. The celebrations are kicked off on May 1st, and we party and celebrate all the way to 17th of May (our national holiday). And yes, we still have school during the day.

Everyone wears the same kind of clothes - a lab coat that you draw on, red overalls and a red hat (red because I'm a red-russ / "rødruss"). You have to wear the clothes everyday, and you can't wash your overalls. You try to do several things to get different "knots" in the string of your hat. You have to do weird things like eating a burger in two bites, swim outside before April 1st (yes, in NORWAY), eat a "russekort" (russ-card.. we have like a kind of business card thingy. Little kids collect them.), etc.

Last night the celebrations were kicked off, even though our school started our russ-celebrations on 26th April, when we were "baptized". You see, we get special nicknames, which we have to write on our hats. Mine is "The Pun". Haha - my jokes are FANTASTIC.

I was up until really late last night outside. It was cold, dark and scary.. but I had lots of fun.

I've been thinking a lot about friendship lately, especially since it's important to have friends during the russ-celebrations. Things haven't been easy lately, and I haven't known who to trust (read about that here). But yesterday I hung out with an amazing girl. We've never hung out before, we were just acquaintances up until yesterday, but now I love her to bits! She's super cool, and we had SO. MUCH. FUN. together :D

It's really important to have friends that won't leave you behind and who will look out for you. And know that you can trust each other. I'm so grateful for this new friendship, and I can't wait to hang out more ;)

I read a great blog post on friendship today, you should read it too. It really puts things into perspective.

I may not write as many posts as usual the next few weeks, since I have exams, school and russefeiring (russ-celebrations), but I'll post when I can ;)

Three Fabulous Fashion DIYs {Guest post}

Johanna Kautt from Be Thou My Vision has kindly taken the time to do a DIY guest post for us today!! I'm super excited, and I hope you are too! I've got three small and easy DIY projects for you.


Tutorial number one (Woodlands Flower Hair-clip):

Supplies: needle and thread, scissors, fabric scraps, hair clip, applique. 

Start out by cutting three circles (about the size of a tennis ball in 
circumference). Turn the raw edges under. Start gathering 
all the way around. You are making a yo-yo.  

Once you have gone all the way around the circle, pull the 
thread as tight as you can (without breaking the thread). 
Anchor and knot.

This is what your finished yo-yo should look like.

After you have made three (total) yo-yos, sew 
them in a straight line, like that shown above.

Then attach your little applique to the side 
of one of the yo-yos.

You can also attach felt to the bottom, to make it have more 
stability, and to add a whimsical touch.

I cut the moss around the shape of the yo-yos.

Next you attach the yo-yos to the hair-clip. 
Tada, you have your woodlands flower hair-clip! :) 

  
Tutorial number two (Mock Version of a Forever 21 Top)

Make yourself five yo-yos. But this time, make them about 
two times larger than the ones above.-- Do so by making 
the fabric circles about two times bigger than 
the ones you made for the hair-clip.

Arrange the yo-yos in an eye-pleasing way 
around the neck of the t-shirt. You 
will want to pin them on there. 
Then you turn the t-shirt inside out. Sew 
all the way around the perimeter of the 
yo-yos (with matching thread), making 
sure it does not go through the top layer 
of the yo-yos (other wise, your stiches will be 
visable).

This is the finished product. :) 

Tutorial number three (Lace and Felt Brooch)

Grab some lace like that shown above. Cut a small 
section out. That will be your lace applique for the brooch.

This is the "backing" for the brooch that I used. I bought 
a package of 16 at a local craft store, for around $3.

Cut out your piece of felt. Make sure it will 
fit nicely inside the brooch backing.

Using thread that matches the lace, sew the lace 
onto the felt. Then use a hot glue gun 
to glue the felt and lace onto the backing.

Last of all, use your hot glue gun to attach the pin onto 
the back of the brooch. You're done! :)
